when I died a death that wasn’t mine

          I died a death that wasn’t mine,
It came like an uninvited guest on a sullen summer night,

And never quite left my side-
It brought weight in the grey suitcase it carried with itself,

Stones wrapped up in a tattered fabric clutched tightly in its hands,
Fabric woven out of care, patience and years of memories now dissolved into utter

          grief,
Fabric that once beguiled me with fragrances of sweetness now lying listlessly.-

When I died a death that wasn’t mine-

I lay by the edge of the crooked bed as quiet as a mouse,
Thoughts cascading in with the speed of light, Untethering me for a short while,

Robbing me of all the known joy,
Casting a rainstorm on the things I once heartily adored,

It was a rainstorm of the unreeling kind,
          Reeking of malevolence and uproar-

I tried to run away from its devilish anchor,
By hiding behind the illusion of temporary clouds of oblivion,

But it burnt my fingers to the bone,
It splintered my flesh into a thousand tears-

          It made my insides numb,
It made my heart thump with incessant fears-

When I died a death that wasn’t mine-

                                                                                                Audio
